MISSION
At the Super Skills Basketball School, our purpose is to make the sport of basketball accessible to every young athlete, regardless of their financial background. As a 501c3 non-profit organization, we are dedicated to providing high-quality training, mentorship, and resources that foster both athletic development and personal growth. Our mission is to create an inclusive environment where passion for the game, teamwork, and discipline can flourish, helping young players build confidence, leadership skills, and a lifelong love for basketball. By operating as a non-profit, we ensure that our focus remains on the well-being and advancement of our athletes, allowing us to invest fully in their potential and our community.
PHIL GALVIN
CO-DIRECTOR
Considered one of the top clinicians and skill development instructors in the world, Phil Galvin brings over 30 years of knowledge and experience with him to the Super Skills Program. Since 2019, he has worked as the Technical Director of the NBA’s Basketball School in Dubai; overseeing a program with over 500 kids participating annually. The school in Dubai is largely considered to be the best NBA basketball school in the world.
A native of the Bay Area, Galvin was an All-State performer in basketball at Antioch High School. He played collegiately at Santa Rosa Junior College before accepting a Division I scholarship to Mount St. Mary’s College in Maryland. There he played for legendary coach Jim Phelan, one of college basketball’s all time win leaders. Galvin was selected to the Northeast Conference (NEC) All-Newcomer team and was named NEC player of the week three times.
After graduation, he began his coaching career at The University of San Francisco. He spent 5 years as an assistant coach at USF a was a part of the 1998 NCAA tournament staff. He then spent 20 years working as the Basketball Director at The Olympic Club in San Francisco, which is one of the finest private athletic clubs in the world. Coach Galvin launched Super Skills Basketball in 2003 and our program has served over 3000 kids annually.
Galvin, 52, moved home to East Bay in May 2024 to serve as the Head Boys Basketball Coach at Las Lomas High School.
KATIE BATLIN
CO-DIRECTOR
Super Skills is proud to announce the addition of Katie Batlin as a Co-Director of our program. As a star player, Katie was nominated to the prestigious McDonald’s All-American team and was named the California Player of the Year at Miramonte High School. She received a full scholarship to play collegiately at St. Mary’s College.After graduating from SMC, Katie played her extra year of eligibility at San Francisco State. She led her team in points, rebounds, assists and steals; averaging 15.1 points 7.8 rebounds 3.8 assists and 2.6 steals per game. She then signed a Level 1 professional contract to play in Australia.
Katie comes to Super Skills after serving as a Head Coach at the NBA's Basketball School in Dubai for the last 3 years. “Our program in Dubai had 8 girls in it when Katie arrived; it has grown to over 150 girls and is the largest program in the Middle East under her supervision and guidance,” commented Super Skills founder Phil Galvin. “I am ecstatic to be adding Katie to our team here in Walnut Creek; he has tremendous passion for the game and is going to provide an extremely high level of coaching experience to the players in our school program,” Galvin continued.
“I am extremely excited to offer a high quality skill development program here in the Walnut Creek area. Teaching character through the platform of sports is my true passion. I believe there is a huge need in the area for such a program in which players can received detailed instruction within a positive framework. My staff and I are truly excited to serve the kids and parents in this community.”

Program co-director Phil Galvin and Katie Batlin have created a comprehensive program that places heavy emphasis on both physical skill and character development. When selecting the directors and staff for each of our developmental programs, we take a Values Centered Approach. We care deeply about the integrity and character level of the staff that is going to interact with your children.
