MISSION & VISION
Super Skills leverages the iconic game of basketball to deliver life-changing opportunities and experiences. As a 501c3 company, our MISSION is to impact the lives of the kids in our community in a powerful way. Our programs are designed to support young people and families from various backgrounds and to ensure that all eligible candidates have fair access. Super Skills is highly organized, inclusive environment that fosters both athletic development and personal growth.
OUR CORE VALUES
Our values are the shared principles and beliefs that guide our actions and provide a compass for all of our decisions. Our values draw inspiration from the three words “Trust, Service & Joy.” These words represent what we honor in all members of our community. We will use our core values to further derive the “ways of operating” that define all of our Super Skills programs.
PHIL GALVIN
FOUNDER
Considered one of the top clinicians and skill development instructors in the world, Phil Galvin brings over 30 years of knowledge and experience with him to the Super Skills Program.Since 2019, he has worked as the Technical Director of the NBA’s Basketball School in Dubai; overseeing a program with over 500 kids participating annually. The school in Dubai is largely considered to be the best NBA basketball school in the world.
A native of the Bay Area, Galvin was an All-State performer in basketball at Antioch High School. He played collegiately at Santa Rosa Junior College before accepting a Division I scholarship to Mount St. Mary’s College in Maryland. There he played for legendary coach Jim Phelan, one of college basketball’s all time win leaders. Galvin was selected to the Northeast Conference (NEC) All-Newcomer team and was named NEC player of the week three times.
After graduation, he began his coaching career at The University of San Francisco. He spent 5 years as an assistant coach at USF a was a part of the 1998 NCAA tournament staff. He then spent 20 years working as the Basketball Director at The Olympic Club in San Francisco, which is one of the finest private athletic clubs in the world. Coach Galvin launched Super Skills Basketball in 2003 and our program has served over 3000 kids annually.
In addition to his roles in leadership and coaching, Galvin also has extensive experience the design and operation of first class athletic facilities. He has been highly involved in the execution of several major projects, including the 150 million dollar renovation of The Olympic Club in San Francisco. He also oversaw the opening of VillaSport Athletic Club and Spa in Beaverton, where he served as the General Manager.
Galvin, 52, moved home to East Bay in May 2024.
KATIE BATLIN
DIRECTOR
Katie Batlin serves the Co-Director of the Super Skills program. As a star player, Katie was nominated to the prestigious McDonald’s All-American team and was named the California Player of the Year at Miramonte High School. She received a full scholarship to play collegiately at St. Mary’s College.After graduating from SMC, Katie played her extra year of eligibility at San Francisco State. She led her team in points, rebounds, assists and steals; averaging 15.1 points 7.8 rebounds 3.8 assists and 2.6 steals per game. She then signed a Level 1 professional contract to play in Australia.
Katie previously served as a Head Coach at the NBA's Basketball School in Dubai. “Our program in Dubai had 8 girls in it when Katie arrived; it has grown to over 150 girls and is the largest program in the Middle East under her supervision and guidance,” commented Super Skills founder Phil Galvin. “I am ecstatic to be working alongside Katie in all aspects of our Super Skills program. She has tremendous passion for the game and is a powerful leader and mentor to the players, parents, and coaches in our program,” expressed Galvin. ‘We are very, very lucky to have her leading this program.’
“I am extremely excited to offer a high quality skill development program here in the Walnut Creek area. Teaching character through the platform of sports is my true passion. I believe there is a huge need in the area for such a program in which players can received detailed instruction within a positive framework. My staff and I are truly excited to serve the kids and parents in this community.”
